KATHMANDU: A total of 26,680 students are participating in the scholarship entrance examination for Grades 11 and 12 to be conducted by Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) on Sunday.
According to KMC, all 26,680 applicants have been qualified after 208 out of 26,888 applications were rejected.
Education Officer and Examination Committee Member Secretary Ramchandra Khadka said students can download their admit cards through the same online system used for submitting applications. The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has made it mandatory to print the admit card in colour.
The scholarship entrance examination for institutional schools operating Grades 11 and 12 within the metropolitan area will be held on May 31. KMC introduced the system in 2080 BS through a policy decision aimed at providing scholarships in private schools.
Candidates can download their admit cards by logging into the official portal of the Metropolitan City at entrance.kathmandu.gov.np. To log in, students must enter their SEE symbol number as the username, followed by their date of birth and the password received via email or SMS.
The Metropolitan City has also stated that candidates must carry their admit card along with an official photo identification document, such as the SEE admit card, school ID card or citizenship certificate, to the examination centre.
The Education Department of KMC has completed orientation sessions for examination centre heads. Metropolitan Education Officer Namraj Dhakal said centre heads have been instructed to ensure the examination is conducted fairly and impartially, while also creating a student-friendly environment so candidates do not feel intimidated during the exam.
While ward-level committees recommend scholarships up to Grade 10, the Metropolitan City’s Education Department conducts the scholarship examination and recommends students for Grades 11 and 12 based on merit.
Following the publication of the merit list, students selected through the matching process receive full scholarships and are exempted from paying educational fees for Grades 11 and 12.
Since launching the programme in 2080 BS, Kathmandu Metropolitan City has provided scholarships to around 15,000 students from across the country studying in institutional schools.
Last year, more than 14,000 students participated in the scholarship entrance examination. Of them, 10,867 students passed, while around 4,500 eventually received scholarships.
The scholarship system was introduced during the tenure of then-Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah.
