KATHMANDU: The government led by Prime Minister Balen Shah has forwarded three additional ordinances to President Ram Chandra Paudel, intensifying its push for legal reforms through executive measures.
The newly recommended ordinances seek amendments to laws related to universities, health, and other Nepal Acts.
According to a leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, the decision to move forward with the three ordinances was discussed within the party and approved before being sent to the President.
The Office of the President has also confirmed receipt of the additional ordinances. Earlier, the government had already forwarded two ordinances concerning cooperatives and the Constitutional Council to Sheetal Niwas.
Those two ordinances were recommended by a Cabinet meeting held earlier this week. Presidential Press Advisor Kiran Pokharel had stated that the ordinances are under review.
The earlier set of ordinances was sent from Singha Durbar to the President’s Office on Tuesday afternoon. With the latest move, the total number of ordinances forwarded by the government has now reached five.
