RSP begins early preparations for local elections, forms candidate selection panel

KATHMANDU: The ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party has started early preparations for the upcoming local level elections, scheduled after the completion of the current five-year term in 2027.

The party is planning to hold local and provincial assembly elections simultaneously and has initiated groundwork toward that goal.

A parliamentary party meeting held on Wednesday decided to form a committee to oversee candidate selection guidelines and manage a candidate club for election preparation.

Co-General Secretary Bipin Kumar Acharya has been appointed as coordinator of the committee, while central committee member Ram Kumar Dhungana has been named secretary. The panel also includes several central members and federal lawmakers.

The party has also decided to launch a candidate club program from May 3 aimed at training prospective candidates and preparing them for elections.

RSP has instructed its members not to make any commitments regarding election tickets, warning of action against those found engaging in such practices.

The party said the initiative is aimed at ensuring a transparent and merit-based candidate selection process for the upcoming elections.
