The deceased have been identified as 19-year-old Nisha Kunwar of Banganga Municipality-7, Kapilvastu, and 18-year-old Purnima Magar of Kalikanagar, Butwal Sub-metropolitan City-11.

They died when a scooter (Lu 34 Pa 5766) carrying three people overturned on a downhill road near Nuwakot in Palpa.

The accident occurred around 7 pm when the scooter, returning from Nuwakot, lost control and fell about 30 metres off the road near View Tower in Butwal-13.

The scooter driver, Soman Shrestha of Banganga-7, Bangai, was seriously injured in the incident, according to Police Inspector Thaman BC of the Area Police Office, Butwal.

Police said the accident likely occurred after the rider lost control due to overloading while descending the road. Further investigation is underway.

Locals said that six people have died in accidents at the same location on the Nuwakot–Butwal road in the past two years. They also noted that the absence of regular traffic monitoring in the area has contributed to repeated accidents and rising casualties.
