Rafting begins on Kaligandaki River

MYAGDI: Tourism entrepreneurs from Pokhara have launched rafting activities on the Kaligandaki River, targeting domestic tourists and aiming to extend their stay in the region.

The rafting route stretches from Farse in Jaljala Rural Municipality, Parbat, to Nayapul in Kushma Municipality. The launch was organized by the Pokhara Visit Year Implementation Committee, with participation from tourism entrepreneurs, local representatives, business leaders, and media personnel.

Gopi Bahadur Bhattarai, coordinator of the committee, said 38 participants took part in the inaugural rafting organized by Rafting Runner Company.

“Tourists rafting on the Farse-Nayapul section, which is just a two-hour drive from Pokhara, can also explore nearby destinations such as Kushma, Baglung, Beni, and Galeshwor. This route is ideal for those interested in nature, culture, and adventure tourism,” he added.

The rafting journey covers approximately 10 kilometers and takes about one hour and 30 minutes. Earlier, the committee had promoted rafting on the Marsyangdi and Seti rivers as part of the Pokhara Visit Year initiative.

Birendra Lama, operator of Rafting Runner, noted that each boat accommodates eight people, and a three-day rafting package from Nayapul to Ridi in Gulmi has been made available for foreign tourists.

The months of Kartik and Chait are considered ideal for rafting. Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Gokarna Karki said rafting on the Kaligandaki offers an exciting experience along with scenic views of hilly terrain and riverside settlements.
