‘Gagan Thapa will never run from questions’

This is my first time contesting from Sarlahi-4. Because of that, I hear a genuine concern from some people: once elected, will he still be accessible, or will he disappear? I understand this doubt. But that is not the kind of politics I practice.

If I were someone who ignored people after winning elections, the citizens of Kathmandu-4 would not have elected me three times, nor would they have continued to urge me to contest again from the same constituency. For me, politics is not about holding a position—it is about carrying responsibility.

After being elected, I will establish a permanent parliamentary office in Sarlahi-4. This will not be a symbolic office with a signboard on the wall. It will be a working space where citizens can walk in anytime, register their concerns, and expect follow-up and solutions.

There will also be a dedicated office in Kathmandu for Sarlahi-4. Any issue raised by citizens here will immediately reach Kathmandu through a structured system. Whether I am in Sarlahi or in the capital, the responsibility entrusted to me by the people of Sarlahi-4 will be carried out without interruption. I will visit the constituency regularly.

Dedicated teams will work in the areas of education, health, information technology, agriculture, and irrigation. In fact, my IT team from Kathmandu is already on its way to Sarlahi. They will visit every village, study local issues and needs for a week, and return with a detailed report.

Based on this groundwork, I will decide what I will work on over the next five years and what I will raise in Parliament. The team I speak of is my greatest asset—people I have connected with through years of work: experts, professionals, students, and committed young people.

Many have told me, “You’ve gone to Sarlahi; we will come there to help you.” I tell them one thing clearly: I don’t need outside help imposed from above. I want to work with the people of Sarlahi themselves.

I have already met many individuals from Sarlahi who are professionally active in Kathmandu. If they wish to contribute, I will use their knowledge and skills for the development of Sarlahi.

From now on, Sarlahi is my constituency. Its agriculture, health, education, and irrigation are my responsibility. I will bring every relationship and experience I have built across the country back to this constituency. This is my promise.

I am confident that Sarlahi-4 will become one of the best-performing constituencies among the 32 seats of Madhesh Province. Please be assured of that. I have only just begun my journey as party president, and I intend to remain active in politics for the next eight to ten years.

If I fail to fulfill the commitments I make to you today, you will rightfully question me. And that failure will harm me more than anyone else. That is precisely why I intend to channel the energy and capability of young people to deliver visible, exemplary work.

I do not want to work as a distant leader, but as an elder brother and a guardian. Some young people are abroad for employment; others want to try something new but are unsure who will support them. I want them to see me as a dependable ally.

Just the other day, I met a young man who plays cricket. He told me he lacks access and needs support to move forward. In such moments, I will stand with them to the best of my ability.

I do not run from questions. I do not shy away from responsibility. Making Sarlahi-4 a model constituency is my commitment.
