Dense fog blankets Kathmandu Valley and Tarai, flights disrupted

KATHMANDU: Dense fog has blanketed the Kathmandu Valley and several districts of the Tarai-Madhes region since early morning today, disrupting daily life and air travel.

Due to reduced visibility caused by thick fog, domestic flight operations from Tribhuvan International Airport have been suspended. Morning flights at airports including Bhadrapur, Janakpur, Pokhara, Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj and Dhangadhi have also been delayed.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the fog formed as a result of rainfall that occurred yesterday. Meteorologists explained that during evaporation, cooler temperatures in the upper atmosphere pushed fine water particles downward, causing them to remain near the ground and form dense fog.

Weather officials said the foggy conditions are expected to gradually clear from the afternoon.
