KATHMANDU: Authorities have recovered 547 bodies from various locations following the devastating Bhotekoshi flash flood that struck Rasuwa district on Wednesday.
According to Nepal Police, the death toll from the flash flood has reached 547 and is continuing to rise. The Police Headquarters said the recovered bodies include 13 from Rasuwa, 40 from Dhading, 29 from Tanahun, 38 from Nuwakot, 44 from Gorkha, 221 from Chitwan, 134 from Nawalparasi East and 28 from Nawalparasi West.
Nepal Police spokesperson Abhi Narayan Kafle said 1,473 flood survivors have been rescued so far from various locations. Of them, 572 were rescued from Rasuwa, 898 from Nuwakot and three from Dhading.
Those injured during the disaster and rescue operations have been brought to Kathmandu for treatment. So far, 94 survivors have been airlifted to health facilities in Kathmandu, although some have already been discharged.
Government officials, including personnel from security agencies, the Customs Office and the Immigration Office, have also been reported missing since the catastrophic flash flood.
The Nepali Army has reported that 44 of its personnel are out of contact, while the figures are 27 from the Nepal Police, 13 from the Armed Police Force, 15 from the Customs Office in Timure and four from the Immigration Office in Timure.
The total number of people reported missing or out of contact stands at 2,381. Security agencies have continued search and rescue operations in coordination with government officials, local residents and elected representatives.
