Deadline ends for public feedback on bill to strengthen protection for health workers

KATHMANDU: Today is the final day for the public and stakeholders to submit suggestions on the draft bill prepared to amend the Health Worker and Health Institution Security Act.

The Ministry of Health and Food Hygiene had published the draft on July 22, inviting feedback within seven days. Suggestions can be submitted through the ministry’s Legal Division via email.

According to the ministry, the proposed amendment seeks to strengthen legal provisions against violence targeting health workers. It also proposes extending legal protection to students pursuing health-related studies.

The draft further includes provisions to prohibit the display or use of weapons to intimidate health workers and authorizes the ministry to formulate necessary directives and standards for implementing the law.

The ministry said the draft bill will be revised based on the feedback received before being moved forward through the legislative process.
