HoR members draw govt attention to contemporary issues

KATHMANDU: Lawmakers in today’s meeting of the House of Representatives drew the government’s attention to a range of contemporary issues, including education, road safety, infrastructure, and sports governance.

Several lawmakers raised concerns over alleged errors in the publication of Grade 12 examination results, calling for an investigation and timely resolution of students’ grievances.

Gita Gurung of the Nepali Congress urged the government to address concerns raised by students regarding the results. Pramila Gachchhadar, also from the same party, called on authorities to take the agitation of affected students seriously.

Indira Rana Magar of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) drew attention to the death of a girl who was struck by a tipper truck at Aduwa Khola Bridge in Biratnagar-3, Jhapa district. She urged authorities to investigate the incident and ensure protection for the victim’s family, alleging that they had received threats from the accused.

CPN (UML) lawmaker Neeta Gharti emphasized the need for stricter legal provisions to prevent reckless driving and demanded appropriate compensation for the victim’s family.

Shraddha Kunwar Chhetri said FIFA’s decision to suspend the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) had deeply affected Nepal’s sports sector, including players and fans, and had also damaged the country’s image.

Rastriya Prajatantra Party lawmaker Gyan Bahadur Shahi said increasing fines alone would not help reduce road accidents. He urged the government to prioritize the construction of safe and quality infrastructure.

Dr. Arjun Karki of the CPN (UML) called for the continuation of the under-construction transmission line project in Sankhuwasabha. Similarly, Ambika Devi Sangroula urged the restoration of sections of the BP Highway damaged by the Roshi River.

Balawati Sharma of the Nepali Communist Party called for the prompt resolution of issues related to landless squatters, and also opposed any reduction in the number of provincial assemblies and local levels.

Prakash Singh Karki stressed the need for proper management of hydropower transmission wires to prevent potential accidents.
