Nepali Army conducts disaster exercise in Mahakali River

MAHENDRANAGAR: The Nepali Army (NA) conducted ‘Exercise Monsoon-6’ focused on disaster management and rescue operations in the Mahakali River at Airi, Bhimdatta Municipality-12, Kanchanpur.

The rescue simulation, organized by the Barahadal Regiment of Bhagatpur Barracks, showcased disaster response and damage reduction measures for local residents.

Regiment Commander Lieutenant Colonel Ashok Shahi said the exercise was aimed at raising public awareness about rescue operations and minimizing losses during disasters. He noted that the army’s technical team remains prepared with necessary equipment for emergency response in flood- and disaster-affected situations.

During the exercise, rescue teams from the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force carried out joint drills demonstrating coordinated disaster response.

Speaking at the event, Durga Dutta Bohara, Chief of the District Coordination Committee, Kanchanpur, stressed the need for heightened public caution during the monsoon season, as areas along the Mahakali River remain highly vulnerable to floods and disasters. He also cautioned against risky activities such as swimming in the river and collecting firewood from flood-prone areas during the rainy season.

The program was attended by Chief District Officer Madan Koirala, Assistant Rathi Bijit Raj Regmi, Commander of the 25th Brigade, and members of the District Security Committee.

The exercise also saw collaboration with non-governmental organizations, including the Nepal National Social Welfare Association (NNSWA).
