Nepal’s economy projected to reach Rs 6.6 trillion



KATHMANDU: Nepal’s economy is projected to reach Rs 6.6 trillion in the current fiscal year, according to preliminary estimates released by the National Statistics Office.

Unveiling the annual national accounts estimates in Kathmandu on Tuesday, the office stated that the size of the economy is expected to grow significantly compared to the revised estimate of Rs 6.199 trillion in the previous fiscal year.

The office noted that Gross Domestic Product (GDP), measured at constant prices, is used to calculate economic growth. Based on this, the economy is projected to grow by 3.68 percent at basic prices and 3.85 percent at market prices in the current fiscal year.

According to Chief Statistician Kamal Prasad Pokharel, the agriculture sector is expected to grow by 1.58 percent, while the non-agriculture sector is projected to expand by 4.54 percent.

He emphasized that such data plays a crucial role in policymaking and is prepared in line with international standards.

The preliminary estimate also shows that Nepal’s per capita Gross National Income (GNI) is expected to reach 1,535 US dollars in the current fiscal year.

In sectoral contributions, the construction sector is projected to account for 5.52 percent of GDP, with a growth rate of 2.21 percent. Meanwhile, the financial and insurance sector is expected to contribute 6.72 percent to GDP, with a growth rate of 9.16 percent.
