KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has expressed dissatisfaction over the government’s decision to implement the report of the probe commission led by Gauri Bahadur Karki on the incidents of September 8 and 9, 2025, urging the authorities to ensure a fair, transparent and lawful process.
In a press statement issued on Saturday, the party recalled that it had been demanding an impartial investigation into the incidents since September 10 and had called for action against those responsible.
However, the party has remained silent on the arrest of KP Sharma Oli, chair of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist), and its own leader, former home minister Ramesh Lekhak, who were detained earlier on Saturday.
The statement also noted that a meeting of the party’s Central Executive Committee chaired by then vice president Purna Bahadur Khadka on September 12 had similarly urged that those responsible for the incidents be brought under legal action.
Congress said a party meeting held from Chaitra 6 to 8 had demanded the immediate publication of the commission’s report, adding that it has not yet been made public through proper legal procedures.
Referring to media reports, the party claimed that the commission’s report covers the incidents of September 8 in detail but overlooks those of September 9, making the report incomplete and one-sided.
The statement also accused the government led by Balen Shah of acting in a “selective” manner by hastily deciding to implement the report and making arrests, despite the earlier position of the government led by Sushila Karki that the report would be studied before any decision.
The party stressed that anyone involved in the incidents of both days should face legal action in accordance with due process. It also warned that decisions taken in haste could weaken the rule of law and push the country toward renewed conflict and instability.
Congress urged the government to act with restraint and ensure impartial investigation, prosecution and legal proceedings.
