Home minister instructs police not to inconvenience public for VIP movement



KATHMANDU:  Sudan Gurung, Nepal’s home minister, has instructed traffic police not to give special treatment to ministers’ vehicles if it causes inconvenience to the public.

During a surprise inspection of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office on Saturday, Gurung directed police officials to ensure that road users are not harassed in the name of VIP movement.

“VIPs should not receive special treatment that causes hardship for citizens. Traffic movement must remain convenient for the public. We are servants of the people,” the minister said.

Gurung also said that if ministers are in a hurry, they should leave on time rather than expecting roads to be cleared for them. He further instructed police not to trouble ordinary citizens in the name of facilitating VIP convoys.
