KATHMANDU: All Nepal National Free Students Union, the student wing close to the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist), staged a protest by burning tyres at Bhrikutimandap on Saturday.

The demonstration was organized demanding the release of UML chair and former prime minister KP Sharma Oli.

During the protest, activists chanted slogans and expressed anger against the government. Traffic movement in the area was briefly affected after protesters blocked the road by burning tyres.

Personnel from the Nepal Police were deployed to control the situation, and authorities said security arrangements in the area have been tightened while keeping the protest under surveillance.
