23 UML mass organizations to stage nationwide protest against Oli’s arrest

KATHMANDU: Twenty-three mass organizations of the CPN-UML have announced plans to stage protests across the country today at 3 pm against the arrest of party chair and former prime minister KP Sharma Oli.

The decision was taken at a central secretariat meeting held at the party’s central office in Chyasal, which directed the mass organizations to lead the protests on behalf of the party. The demonstrations are expected to be focused at the headquarters of all districts.

In addition, the UML has planned a large-scale demonstration on March 28 at 12 pm, organized by district party committees, during which protest letters will be submitted to Chief District Officer (CDO) offices.

The newly formed government under Balen Shah had yesterday decided to immediately implement the recommendations of the investigation commission led by former Justice Gauribahadur Karki, which probed the Gen Z Movement incident of September 2025.

In response, all 23 UML mass organizations had issued a statement yesterday warning that they would mobilize to resist the arrest of their chair. Police arrested Oli from his residence in Gundu, Bhaktapur, this morning for investigation in a case related to an offence involving loss of life.
