Former Prime Minister KP Oli arrested

KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has been arrested.

He was taken into custody a short while ago from his residence in Gundu, Bhaktapur, and has been transported to the District Police Office, Kathmandu.

Police had been deployed in Gundu since overnight in preparation for the arrest. Oli, who is also the chairman of the CPN-UML, was taken away in a police vehicle.

His arrest follows the earlier detention of former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.

As police moved in, supporters gathered in Gundu and raised slogans in Oli’s favor. Several leaders, including National Assembly member Ram Kumari Jhakri, were present at the scene.

The arrest comes after the first Cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah (Balen), which decided to immediately implement the report of the Gen-Z Movement Inquiry Commission.

Following the completion of legal procedures, police proceeded with Oli’s arrest. Earlier in the day, former Home Minister Lekhak had also been taken into custody.
