BHAKTAPUR: Police have been deployed to Gundu, the residence of CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli.
Personnel from the District Police Range, Bhaktapur, and the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office have been mobilized to the area for surveillance.
According to Police Headquarters, officers have requested a written order to proceed with the arrest of Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, following instructions from Home Minister Sudhan Gurung.
Police officials maintain that an arrest cannot be carried out without a formal written directive. In this context, Law Ministry Secretary Parashwar Dhungana was also summoned to Police Headquarters.
As of 1:00 am, no agreement had been reached among Home Secretary Rajkumar Shrestha and senior police officials.
Meanwhile, a verbal directive has been issued to police units in the Valley to remain on standby in case arrests need to be carried out at any time.
The Cabinet had already decided in Friday’s meeting to implement the report of the Gen-Z Protest Inquiry Commission. However, regarding security personnel, the government has decided to delay implementation and proceed only after further study of the commission’s recommendations.
The government is reportedly preparing to take action against then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, former Home Secretary Gokarna Mani Duwadi, and Kathmandu Chief District Officer Chhabilal Rijal.
