Congress to move Supreme Court seeking immediate hearing on government legitimacy case

A faction of lawmakers from the Nepali Congress is preparing to move the Supreme Court seeking an immediate hearing on a case related to the legitimacy of the current government, while also demanding the restoration of the House of Representatives. Nepali Congress leader Shyam Kumar Ghimire said a party delegation will file a writ petition at the Supreme Court at 10 a.m. on Thursday. According to Ghimire, although a case questioning the legitimacy of the present government has already been registered and remains sub judice, no hearing has begun so far. He said major political parties, including the CPN-UML and the Nepali Congress, have not endorsed the current government.

Gagan Thapa says past Madhesh movements reflected dissatisfaction with Nepali Congress

Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has stated that previous Madhesh movements reflected dissatisfaction with the party. Thapa, who is also the candidate for Sarlahi-4, said that while the Congress should have addressed many issues of the Tarai-Madhesh region, the party’s failure to do so led to the repeated emergence of new parties and movements. He added that the Nepali Congress is now conducting self-assessment and striving to address Madhes-centric issues. Thapa expressed concern that recent tendencies to perceive the party as weak have worsened internal problems.

Rastriya Janamorcha releases election manifesto, calls for scrapping federalism

The Rastriya Janamorcha on Wednesday unveiled its election manifesto, highlighting the scrapping of federalism and the protection of national unity, sovereignty, and integrity. The manifesto was presented at a program in Butwal by Rastriya Janamorcha Chairperson Chitra Bahadur KC and other party leaders ahead of the House of Representatives election. Addressing the event, KC accused the previous government and ruling parties of failing to fulfill national objectives. He claimed that the current parliament was dissolved to facilitate elections controlled by NGO-INGO affiliates rather than serving the country’s interests.

Prachanda ready for public debate ahead of elections

Nepali Communist Party Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has expressed his readiness to participate in a public debate with any political leader ahead of the elections. Speaking to journalists in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Prachanda said, “I am ready for a public debate. You all know that I have been engaging in debates for a long time. On September 10, the interim government was supposed to be formed, but it was formed on September 12th. I presented myself publicly for the first time right here.”

Finance Minister Khanal urges swift action to remove Nepal from FATF grey list

Finance Minister Rameshore Prasad Khanal has called on all sectors and state agencies to act responsibly and in coordination to remove Nepal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list at the earliest. Speaking at the Asset Laundering Prevention National Day 2082 program held on Thursday under the theme “Asset Laundering Prevention: Transparency and Financial Good Governance”, Minister Khanal stressed the need to complete all required reforms ahead of the stipulated timeline and ensure Nepal’s exit from the grey list within the next year.

National Assembly members say post–Gen-Z government has failed to gain public trust

Members of the National Assembly have said that the government formed after the Gen-Z movement has failed to win the trust of the people. Speaking during the special hour of the National Assembly meeting on Wednesday, lawmakers said the government has been unable to operate in line with the sentiments of young people and has not earned public confidence. They also accused ministers who joined the so-called “citizens’ government” of undermining the good governance agenda by resigning before the elections.

Prachanda urges Biplav to join broader communist unity with self-criticism

Coordinator of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has urged Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’ to join a broader communist unity through self-criticism, warning that staying away from unity could lead to future regret. Speaking at a program held at the party office in Parisdanda on Wednesday to induct leaders who had rebelled from the Biplav-led party into the NCP, Prachanda said the doors remain open for Biplav if he is willing to engage in self-reflection and return to the path of communist unity.

NC finalizing election strategy ahead of March 5 polls

The Nepali Congress is preparing its strategy for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5. An election deployment committee, chaired by party Vice President Bishwa Prakash Sharma, is drafting the party’s election operational manual. Officials and members holding various responsibilities across the party will be mobilized in their respective areas from February 4 to March 5. The manual will follow a “last 30 days of the election: everyone reports to their assigned responsibility” principle.

EC starts investigation after complaint against Guthi chief’s removal

A complaint has been filed with the Election Commission (EC) alleging that the head of Shri Bouddha and Melamchi Ghyang Guthi was removed from his post in violation of the election code of conduct. According to Assistant Spokesperson of the EC, Kul Bahadur GC, the complaint states that the institution acted against the election code. As a result, the commission has initiated necessary investigation and inquiry procedures starting today. The EC had enforced the Election Code of Conduct, 2082, from midnight of January 18. Clause 3 (j) of the code specifies that the conduct rules apply to offices and employees of government, semi-government, and public institutions.

Local representatives from rival parties join Nepali Congress in Sarlahi-4

The Nepali Congress has seen a surge in new entrants from various political parties after party General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa filed his candidacy for the House of Representatives from Sarlahi constituency No. 4. To support Congress candidate Thapa, several leaders, including a provincial assembly candidate and ward chairpersons from Godaita Municipality, have joined the Nepali Congress. Krishna Kumar Kushwaha, a provincial assembly candidate from Sarlahi-4 (B) representing the Bahujan Party, along with four ward chairpersons, formally joined the Nepali Congress at a program held in Sarlahi on Wednesday. They were welcomed into the party by Congress leader Gagan Thapa.

RSP chief Rabi Lamichhane stable in hospital after leg infection

The Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) in Maharajgunj has provided an update on the treatment of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane. Lamichhane was admitted to the hospital’s orthopedics department on Tuesday due to a problem in his left leg. According to a statement issued by hospital spokesperson Dr. Gopal Sedain, the injury occurred on January 19 during a program in Janakpur.

Gold price reaches Rs 318,800 per tola

Prices of gold and silver reached record highs in the domestic market on Wednesday. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of fine gold has been fixed at Rs 318,800 per tola, while silver is being traded at Rs 7,300 per tola. On Tuesday, fine gold was traded at Rs 309,300 per tola, while silver was priced at Rs 6,870 per tola.
