Congress to move Supreme Court seeking immediate hearing on government legitimacy case

KATHMANDU: A faction of lawmakers from the Nepali Congress is preparing to move the Supreme Court seeking an immediate hearing on a case related to the legitimacy of the current government, while also demanding the restoration of the House of Representatives.

Nepali Congress leader Shyam Kumar Ghimire said a party delegation will file a writ petition at the Supreme Court at 10 a.m. on Thursday.

According to Ghimire, although a case questioning the legitimacy of the present government has already been registered and remains sub judice, no hearing has begun so far. He said major political parties, including the CPN-UML and the Nepali Congress, have not endorsed the current government.

“We will accept the court’s verdict. Our demand is that the case be listed for an immediate hearing and that proceedings begin without delay,” Ghimire told Khabarhub.

Senior leaders of the Nepali Congress have repeatedly argued that the House of Representatives must be restored in accordance with the constitution and existing laws.
