EC starts investigation after complaint against Guthi chief’s removal

KATHMANDU: A complaint has been filed with the Election Commission (EC) alleging that the head of Shri Bouddha and Melamchi Ghyang Guthi was removed from his post in violation of the election code of conduct.

According to Assistant Spokesperson of the EC, Kul Bahadur GC, the complaint states that the institution acted against the election code. As a result, the commission has initiated necessary investigation and inquiry procedures starting today.

The EC had enforced the Election Code of Conduct, 2082, from midnight of January 18. Clause 3 (j) of the code specifies that the conduct rules apply to offices and employees of government, semi-government, and public institutions.

Harish Gole Tamang, spokesperson of the Guthi Secretariat, said the institution decided to remove Bhupatibajra Lama, head of Shri Bauddha and Melamchi Ghyang Guthi, from his post on January 23.

The institution had sought clarification from Lama on the same day the code came into effect, January 18.

GC added that the EC has so far sought 15 clarifications from various political parties, candidates, public bodies, and institutions regarding complaints of code violations.
