Nepal captain Rohit Paudel says World Cup preparation on track

KATHMANDU: Nepali national cricket team captain Rohit Kumar Paudel has said that the team’s preparation for the upcoming ICC World Cup is progressing well.

Speaking in a short video message released by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), Paudel expressed confidence in the team’s readiness and excitement ahead of the global tournament.

“Our preparation has been very good. We will continue to play more practice matches. We are really excited for the World Cup,” Paudel said.

He stated that a balanced combination of experienced and young players has helped build a strong squad for the World Cup. Paudel noted that three players will be making their World Cup debut, while all-rounder Sompal Kami will be playing in his third World Cup appearance.

Paudel also acknowledged the pressure surrounding Nepal’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup, saying expectations were high throughout the journey.

“There was pressure because we qualified for the World Cup as expected. But we will give our 100 percent on the field. Our performance will help make Nepal and Nepalis proud,” he said.

The captain also shared an emotional connection with the national jersey, recalling that he had watched the 2014 World Cup from home as a spectator.

The Nepali team is currently in Mumbai, India, for World Cup preparations. During the training camp, Nepal will play practice matches against Indian state teams, as well as international warm-up matches against the UAE and Canada ahead of the tournament.
