CHITWAN: The Narayangadh-Muglin road section has come into operation after a landslide and debris accumulated at the Namsi Khola bridge were cleared, allowing vehicles and transport services heading toward Pokhara to resume.
According to the Road Division Office, Chitwan, a landslide carrying mud and debris fell at the site at 7:55 am. Information Officer Engineer Krishna Acharya said the road was reopened at around 12:15 pm.
Vehicles and transport services traveling from Pokhara to Narayangadh and from Narayangadh to Pokhara are now moving toward their destinations.
Meanwhile, continuous rainfall has blocked the Malekhu-Muglin section of the Prithvi Highway at 11 locations due to landslides.
According to Engineer Sachindra Mishra, information officer of the western section of the Nagdhunga-Muglin Road Project, a landslide carrying mud and trees has fallen at Shitalbazar, while part of the roadside has also subsided.
Near Benighat Bazaar, the road at Gomti Khola has been reduced to one-way traffic due to a landslide carrying mud and debris. A landslide from above Krishnabhir has also blocked the road.
Mishra said the road has been blocked at Jyamerighat Chowkibhir by a landslide carrying rocks and mud, while smaller landslides carrying rocks have occurred at several locations between Hugdi Khola and Jawang Khola.
Around 200 meters of road at three locations near Fisling have been covered by landslides carrying rocks, mud and trees. About 30 meters of one side of the road has also developed cracks. A landslide carrying rocks has occurred at Chumlingtar.
Mishra said about 50 meters of one side of the road has been damaged at two locations in Dharapani.
Work is underway to clear a culvert at the same location, while the road has also been blocked at Ghoptebhir and Simaldhara by landslides carrying large rocks and mud.
According to Engineer Mishra, clearance work is underway at all affected locations. If no major additional landslides occur, the road is expected to be cleared and reopened to traffic by this evening.
Equipment belonging to the contractor responsible for the road construction is being used for the clearance work, he said.
