BAGLUNG: Continuous rainfall has blocked dozens of rural roads and sections of two national highways in Baglung, disrupting transport links with the district headquarters, Baglung Bazaar.
Floods and landslides triggered by rainfall over the past two days have affected several feeder and rural roads, including sections of the Kaligandaki Corridor and Mid-Hill Highway.
The Galkot-Tarakhola road, which connects Galkot with Tarakhola Rural Municipality, has been blocked since Friday after the Tarakhola River eroded the paved road near the Gaighat Jharna area.
Traffic has also been disrupted by a landslide at Gaudakot in Baglung Municipality-3 along the road connecting Baglung Bazaar with Bhakunde via Tityang and Rayadanda. Similarly, a landslide has blocked the road between Ganeshthan Ghumti and Nirayghat in Ramrekha, Baglung Municipality-1.
The Baglung Bazaar-Saykot road via Sigana has also been blocked by a landslide. The main road connecting Balewa and Kushmisera through Dablyang has been obstructed, disrupting transport in the southern part of the district.
The Baglung Bazaar-Mulpani-Titaure road has been completely blocked by landslides in its lower section. Roads leading to Bareng, feeder roads connecting villages to highways in Nisikhola, and rural roads in Dhorpatan have also been obstructed at several locations.
Chief Superintendent of Police Phanindra Prasai of the District Police Office, Baglung, said rainfall had blocked roads ranging from national highways to rural routes.
According to Prasai, coordination is underway with road project officials, the Road Division Office, construction contractors and local governments to clear the blocked sections.
Continued rainfall and road obstructions have disrupted transport links between several rural settlements and the district headquarters.
