SAPTARI: More than 2,000 people have been affected after floods inundated around 500 houses in Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality and Tilathi Koiladi Rural Municipality of Saptari amid continuous rainfall.
A total of 483 houses in wards 5, 7, 12 and 13 of Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality and 17 houses in wards 4 and 5 of Tilathi Koiladi Rural Municipality were inundated.
Municipal chief Birendra Majhi said floodwaters entered the settlements after the water level in the Saptakoshi River rose on Friday night.
“Arrangements have been made to provide two meals a day, in the morning and evening, to flood-affected people,” Majhi said. “Additional relief materials will be distributed after the affected families are identified and the water level recedes somewhat.”
