KATHMANDU: The government has decided to increase the daily meal allowance and incentive payments provided to security personnel deployed for disaster management operations.
A meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, chaired by Home Minister Sudhan Gurung on Thursday, decided to increase the incentive allowance and daily meal expenses for security personnel deployed in rescue and relief operations during floods, landslides, fires and other disasters.
The authority said the decision was taken in recognition of the significant contribution of personnel from the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Nepali Army, who work on the front lines while putting their own lives at risk during disasters.
The government said providing recognition and incentives to frontline teams is essential to make disaster response operations more effective, faster and results-oriented.
The Executive Committee will write to the concerned authorities regarding the proposed increase in incentives for security personnel. Based on the decision, the respective security agencies will submit the matter to their concerned ministries, which will make the final decision.
The meeting discussed providing Rs 1,000 per day to security personnel for food and meal expenses, along with an incentive allowance equivalent to 50 percent of one day’s salary.
