AMA DABLAM: At more than 5,000 meters in the Everest region, commercial American drone technology and Nepali mountain expertise proved what is possible in some of the world’s most demanding terrain.
U.S. Embassy Nepal and Seven Summit Treks, in partnership with The Coca-Cola Foundation, recently demonstrated the U.S.-manufactured Freefly Alta X Gen2 drone. In June, Nepali drone operators completed multiple flights on Ama Dablam between Base Camp at 4,600 meters and Yak Camp at approximately 5,050 meters, carrying oxygen cylinders and equipment across 1.6 kilometers of steep mountain terrain.
Tested by strong winds and volatile mountain weather, the drone completed every flight successfully. The demonstration underscored the reliability, precision, and performance of trusted American technology in conditions where equipment must perform consistently without failure. For mountain operations, the drone can reduce the physical burden on Sherpas, improve climber safety, and move essential equipment with greater speed and efficiency.

The drone technology has potential applications across Nepal, from expedition logistics and mountain cleanup to search and rescue, disaster response, and emergency deliveries in remote areas. By combining American innovation with Nepal’s world-class mountain and aviation expertise, this partnership shows how American-engineered systems can support safer, faster, and more effective high-altitude and remote-area operations across Nepal.
