Monsoon intensifies, widespread rainfall forecast nationwide



KATHMANDU: The weather is expected to remain generally cloudy across the country today, with the Weather Forecasting Division predicting widespread rainfall and isolated heavy downpours in Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as rain in the Kathmandu Valley later in the day.

According to the Division, the weather is generally cloudy nationwide. Light to moderate rainfall is currently occurring at some places in Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, a few places in Bagmati Province, and one or two places in Sudurpaschim Province.

This afternoon, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at many places in the hilly region and at some places in the mountainous region.

Moderate to heavy rainfall is also expected in many areas of the Terai in Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, some parts of the Terai in Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, a few places in the Terai of Koshi Province, and isolated areas of Madhesh Province.

The Division has also warned of heavy rainfall at one or two places in the hilly regions of Gandaki and Karnali provinces, as well as at a few locations in both the hilly and Terai regions of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Tonight, weather conditions are expected to remain similar, with light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning likely in parts of the mountainous and hilly regions.

Moderate to heavy rainfall is also forecast in some areas of the Terai in Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, and at a few places in the Terai of Koshi Province.

Meanwhile, heavy rainfall is also possible at one or two locations in the hilly regions of Bagmati, Gandaki and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as in the Terai of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Meteorologists have also forecast light to moderate rainfall in the Kathmandu Valley later today.
