Ganga Dussehra fair begins at religious site Behadababa

KAILALI: The Ganga Dussehra fair began today at Behadababa, a site of religious and historical significance located in Rampur of Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City-16 in Kailali.

Chairman of the Temple Management Committee, Khem Bahadur Chand, said that the fair traditionally begins at midnight with the offering of water and special prayers. Devotees from Kailali, Kanchanpur, and other parts of the province visit the temple for worship and ‘darshan’.

According to local belief, the temple was established in ancient times after the emergence of a Shivalinga at the site. Devotees believe that prayers offered at the temple fulfill wishes, and it is particularly regarded as a place where people seek relief from personal problems, including prayers for the birth of a son.

The organizing committee said arrangements such as road repairs, lighting installation, and other facilities have been made to ensure the convenience of devotees visiting the temple. Worshippers from various parts of neighboring India also visit Behadababa during the fair.

Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City Mayor Gopal Hamal said Ganga Dussehra is one of the important festivals celebrated in the region. The sub-metropolitan city has declared a public holiday on the occasion and has also arranged free bus services for devotees.
