NRB Governor Poudel stresses commitment to stability, warns of global risks

KATHMANDU: Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank Biswo Nath Poudel has reaffirmed the central bank’s commitment to maintaining economic stability while supporting sustainable and inclusive growth.

Speaking at the 71st anniversary of Nepal Rastra Bank on Monday, Governor Poudel said the bank is working to contribute to national prosperity through simplified regulation, effective supervision, policy reforms, and a technology-friendly financial system.

He also highlighted the need for close monitoring of global developments, particularly the ongoing conflict in West Asia, which he said could impact both the broader economy and the financial sector.

Referring to the central bank’s annual report for the fiscal year 2024/25, Poudel noted that the global economy is facing rising uncertainty and risks, citing the latest outlook from the International Monetary Fund.

He said geopolitical tensions in West Asia, along with supply chain disruptions and volatility in fuel prices, are affecting the global economic landscape.

At the same programme, former governor Yuba Raj Khatiwada stressed that strengthening domestic production remains key to building a resilient economy.

The event also honored outstanding employees, with one staff member receiving the top award and seven others recognized for excellence. Additionally, 17 employees were awarded long-service honors for completing 20 years of service at the central bank.
