Rabi Lamichhane says public trust key to effective governance

KATHMANDU: Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party Rabi Lamichhane has said that governance becomes easier and more effective when the government is able to earn public trust.

Speaking on contemporary political issues, Lamichhane said political leaders cannot physically reach every household, but stressed that party policies and government programs must effectively reach citizens.

He said it is a positive sign if citizens believe that the government will work in their interest, adding that building such trust is crucial for stable governance.

Referring to political transitions, Lamichhane said formation and dissolution of governments are normal processes, but the most important factor is whether the government has public confidence.

He cited past examples of even two-thirds majority governments failing to complete their terms, arguing that strong public trust ensures smoother governance and policy implementation.

Lamichhane also said that challenges are natural during periods of change, and stressed the need for long-term thinking in policymaking.

“We cannot think only from one election to another; we must think from generation to generation,” he said, adding that while the current generation may face difficulties, future generations should benefit from present reforms.
