Mahesh Basnet alleges biased handling, media distortion after Maitighar clash

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet has alleged biased handling by authorities and distortion of facts in media reporting following the scuffle at Maitighar Mandala involving his wife and protester Shobha Pathak.

Reacting through social media, Basnet claimed that his wife and other women were subjected to verbal abuse and physical assault during the incident.

He also objected to the arrest of his wife and several others, saying the police action was one-sided and raised concerns over fairness in handling the case.

Basnet further accused some media outlets of misrepresenting the incident and spreading distorted narratives.

He said Maitighar Mandala was being misused as a platform for character assassination and called for responsible reporting.

Demanding a fair and impartial investigation, Basnet warned that strong protest actions would follow if justice is not ensured and the issue is not handled transparently by authorities.
