NC says ordinance after suspending Parliament is wrong

LALITPUR: The Nepali Congress has said that introducing ordinances after suspending an already convened parliamentary session is not appropriate.

Party spokesperson Devaraj Chalise made the remarks following a meeting of the party’s Central Working Committee held on Monday at the party headquarters in Sanepa, Lalitpur.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Chalise said it was improper to suspend a previously summoned parliamentary session and simultaneously move ahead with issuing ordinances.

“When a parliamentary session has already been called, suspending it and bypassing Parliament through ordinances is not a dignified step. Laws should be brought transparently through the elected Parliament,” he said.

He added that the party has serious reservations over such practices.

Chalise also briefed the media on decisions taken in the meeting chaired by party president Gagan Kumar Thapa.

During the briefing, he raised concerns over rising petroleum prices and said the government had not shown sufficient attention toward providing relief measures.

He also noted that the government had failed to take adequate steps regarding investigations into incidents related to the Gen-Z protests of September 8 and 9, 2025, during which damages were reported.

The Congress leader urged the government to focus on parliamentary procedures, transparency, and public relief measures rather than bypassing democratic processes.
