US President Trump extends pause on strikes against Iranian energy sites by 10 days

WASHINGTON DC: US President Donald Trump has extended a pause on military strikes against Iranian energy facilities for an additional 10 days, citing ongoing negotiations with Tehran, BBC reported.

Trump, who had announced an initial five-day pause on Monday, confirmed in a post on Truth Social: “As per Iranian Government request… I am pausing the period of Energy Plant destruction by 10 Days to Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8 PM.”

The announcement caused oil prices, which had risen on Thursday, to fall sharply, according to business analysts.

During a cabinet meeting earlier, Trump warned that the US would become Iran’s “worst nightmare” if the country does not accept a proposed peace plan. Special envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed that a 15-point peace proposal has been sent to Tehran.

Iranian officials, in response, told state media that the country has a “natural and legal right” to control the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, regional tensions remain high. Attacks involving Israel, Iran, and Lebanon continue, and two people were killed in Abu Dhabi by debris from an intercepted missile believed to have originated in Iran.
