KATHMANDU: The District Administration Office (DAO) in Kalikot has imposed a ban on the open sale and distribution of petroleum products to ensure that the House of Representatives election is conducted in a free, fair, transparent and peaceful manner.
Assistant Chief District Officer Janak Sharma said the decision prohibits the sale and distribution of petrol, diesel and kerosene in bottles, jerrycans or other open containers throughout the election period.
As per a decision of the District Security Committee, all fuel stations and petroleum dealers must be duly registered with the concerned authorities. Individuals or institutions not registered with the relevant bodies will not be allowed to sell or distribute petroleum products.
The DAO also stated that selling fuel above the prescribed price, creating artificial shortages, hoarding unnecessary stock, or misusing fuel for purposes other than election-related needs will not be permitted.
According to the notice, fuel will be provided only in necessary quantities to vehicles engaged in essential services such as ambulances, hospitals, security agencies and election-related duties, based on official recommendation or identification.
The office said regular and surprise monitoring will be conducted in coordination with security agencies and the Nepal Oil Corporation to ensure effective implementation of the decision.
Sharma warned that individuals violating the District Security Committee’s decision would face legal action as per prevailing laws, including fines and suspension or cancellation of licenses.
Petroleum dealers, transport entrepreneurs and the general public have been urged to strictly comply with the directive and immediately inform the administration or security agencies of any suspicious activities.
