BUTWAL: Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa said that the country cannot progress through fiery or provocative speeches alone, urging party leaders and workers to actively engage with voters at the grassroots level.
Addressing an election rally in Butwal on Friday, Thapa responded to remarks by senior leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party Balendra Shah, who had suggested strict measures against those failing to take responsibility for development work, including roads. Thapa said such an approach would not build the nation.
“We cannot blame a pilot by beating them just because a plane did not land at the airport. We must first identify the real problem,” he said. “Why are roads delayed? The law has issues, which is why I said 41 laws need to be amended. The country will not progress if someone threatens to hang people on trees just because a road isn’t built.”
Thapa called on all Nepali Congress leaders and workers to visit households across the country to mobilize support for the party and prepare for leadership in the next five years. “Party colleagues must go door-to-door. I have to work hard in Sarlahi-4. Each of you must act as a candidate and engage with voters yourself,” he said. “There is no reason not to vote for Nepali Congress’s tree symbol. Nepali Congress has the capacity to reform and lead the country. Let us not waste the next five years.”
He also cautioned against relying solely on social media to secure votes. “Go to the homes of voters. Don’t just write on social media. Move your legs, use your hands and voice, and persuade the voters,” Thapa said. “We must leave behind past mistakes and carry forward good deeds. That is why we have changed Nepali Congress’s leadership.”
