Thunderstorms and lightning likely in four provinces today



KATHMANDU: A partial influence of a western low-pressure system in the upper atmosphere is currently affecting Nepal’s weather.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, fog was observed in some parts of the Terai region on Friday morning, while light rainfall occurred at one or two places in Koshi and Bagmati provinces.

This afternoon, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy in the mountainous and hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and partly cloudy in the remaining hilly and mountainous areas. The Terai region is forecast to remain mostly clear.

There is a possibility of light rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning at a few places in the mountainous and hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. Similar conditions may occur at one or two locations in the mountainous and hilly areas of the other provinces.

Tonight, fog is likely to develop at a few places in the Terai. The mountainous region is expected to remain generally cloudy, the hilly region partly cloudy, and the Terai mostly clear.

The Department has also forecast a chance of light rain or snowfall with thunder and lightning at one or two places in the mountainous regions of Koshi, Gandaki and Karnali provinces during the night.
