CIAA seizes mobile phones of 27, including Transport Office Chief



KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has taken control of mobile phones belonging to 27 individuals, including the chief of the Transport Management Office, Chabahil, in connection with an alleged bribery case.

According to the CIAA, the action was taken on charges of accepting bribes in exchange for facilitating driving licences. Mobile phones of 17 employees, including office chief Pesh Kumar Pokharel, were seized, totaling 24 devices.

The CIAA also confiscated mobile phones of three police personnel, including Assistant Sub-Inspector Dorhari Nepal, deployed from the Metropolitan Traffic Police Office, Ramshahpath, who were assigned to driving licence examinations.

In addition, nine mobile phones belonging to seven individuals, including Balkrishna Singh, manager of Nepal Driving and Reconditioning Centre Pvt Ltd, were taken under control.

They are accused of allowing candidates who had failed the written examination to reappear for the test before completing the mandatory three-month waiting period. Answer sheets and related documents of the examinees have also been seized as part of the investigation.
