WALING: Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Kumar Thapa has urged party leaders and cadres to reach out to people at their doorsteps to rebuild public trust in the party.
Speaking at a welcome and interaction programme in Putalibazar, Syangja district, today, Thapa observed that the party had lost public trust, not merely votes.
“The Congress has lost trust, not votes. Once trust is restored, votes will follow,” he said, expressing confidence that the party could regain public support.
The leader of the major opposition party stressed the need to reach out to disgruntled voters who had distanced themselves from the party. He said their grievances must be heard and they must be informed about the changes taking place within the NC.
Thapa emphasised that leaders and cadres at all levels, from the ward to the central level, must work together to regain the confidence of voters who had turned away from the party out of dissatisfaction.
Referring to changes introduced following the party’s recently held 15th National General Convention, Thapa said preparations were underway to launch a grassroots-level awareness campaign in December. The campaign aims to inform people about the changes within the party and reconnect the NC with the public.
He also stressed that the party’s general convention should be viewed as an exercise in internal democracy rather than a contest in which some emerge as winners and others as losers.
All party members have equal standing, regardless of whether they secure positions or responsibilities, he said, calling for unity as the party moves forward.
