Ministers must reach out to people: Minister Rawal

CHITWAN: Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration Pratibha Rawal has stressed the need for direct engagement between the government and the public, saying ministers should visit people to listen to their concerns rather than expect them to approach government offices.

Speaking to journalists at Bharatpur Airport in Chitwan today, Rawal said she had visited the district to inform the public about the government’s work and listen to their concerns, particularly those of landless people and victims of troubled cooperatives.

Rawal said resolving the problems faced by landless citizens and cooperative victims was among the government’s top priorities.

She said the process of returning savings to depositors of troubled cooperatives had already begun and assured that the government would expedite the process.

“People have been suffering for a long time. Their savings need to be returned as soon as possible,” the minister said.

Emphasizing the need to hold cooperatives accountable for failing to return depositors’ money, Rawal said ministers in the current government were reaching out to the public to hear their concerns firsthand.

“People need to know what the government is doing for their welfare and what plans it has for the future. They are eager to hear about these efforts,” she said.

Rawal also sought to reassure landless people concerned about possible eviction from the places where they have been living. She said the government was working to address their concerns and had made progress by resolving legal complications that had previously hindered the process.

Speaking to the media, the minister reiterated the government’s commitment to removing legal obstacles to issuing land ownership certificates to people who have lived in their settlements for a long time.

“We have already made the necessary policy reforms. The government will continue to address obstacles that arise during implementation,” Rawal said.
