KATHMANDU: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra Shah and expressed condolences over the loss of lives and property caused by the floods in Nepal.
During the phone conversation, Modi expressed sympathy for those who lost their lives and said India stands with the Nepali people during the difficult situation.
Modi also said India is ready to provide all possible humanitarian assistance to Nepal and that Indian teams are coordinating closely with the Nepal government on rescue and relief efforts.
“India’s people stand with the brothers and sisters of Nepal during this difficult time,” Modi said in a social media post following the conversation.
Prime Minister Shah’s press facilitator Surendra Bajgain also confirmed the phone call, saying Modi assured that India was ready to extend whatever assistance was needed during the disaster.
Earlier, the Indian Embassy in Nepal had said it was coordinating with relevant Nepal government agencies for the rescue and relief of Indian nationals affected by the floods.
