KATHMANDU: The government has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and property from a massive flood in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa district. It decided to take immediate measures for the rescue, rehabilitation and treatment of the affected and injured people.
A Cabinet meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Singha Durbar, today paid tribute to those killed in the flooding and extended condolence to the bereaved families.
Spokesperson of the government and Minister for Education and Sports, Sasmit Pokharel, said the government is making immediate arrangement of free treatment to the injured ones. We wish speedy recovery to the injured ones, he added.
The Home Ministry and Defence Ministry are made responsible to immediately rescue the injured ones and those affected from flood. Safe relocation of the need ones will be ensured.
Similarly, the Home Ministry has been directed to mobilize helicopters of the Nepali Army and private sector for rescue as well as to gather all necessary resources.
The government has assigned the Home Ministry, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority and the concerned disaster management committees to manage food and accommodation for the flood affected citizens.
The Ministry of Infrastructure Development has been directed to rebuild damaged roads and manage drinking water as soon as possible in the affected area.
The government will provide financial assistance immediately to those losing family members as per existing law. Finance Minister has been assigned as a coordinator to ensure mobilization of necessary economic resources in order to restore the damaged public and physical infrastructures.
The government also decided to declare the local levels of the affected districts as disaster hit area for three months. The declaration was made in line with Section 32 of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act, 2074.
