KATHMANDU: Sixty employees, including engineers, working at the under-construction 20 MW Langtang Khola Hydropower Project in Syafrubesi, Rasuwa, have gone missing following flooding in the Bhotekoshi River.
The workers lost contact after the river flooded the area where the hydropower project is being constructed.
Bijay Mohan Bhattarai, managing director of Langtang Hydropower Project and secretary of the Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal, has urged the government to launch an immediate search for the missing workers.
He said more than 60 employees had been working on concrete lining inside a tunnel when they lost contact.
“We request the government to begin a search for them. The flood has caused serious damage to the hydropower project’s infrastructure,” Bhattarai said.
He added that the flood had affected even a tunnel located around 10 metres above the river level.
