PM consults flood-affected area MPs, directs relocation of displaced people



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Balendra Shah has held consultations with federal lawmakers from flood-affected districts on the situation following the flooding of the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa.

Prime Minister Shah held discussions with federal MPs from Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha and Chitwan at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar on Wednesday.

According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, the meeting focused on the damage caused by the floods, the condition of settlements along the riverbanks and ongoing search, rescue and relief operations.

The lawmakers briefed Prime Minister Shah on the impact of the disaster in their respective constituencies and highlighted the immediate measures required for search, rescue and relief.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Shah convened a meeting of the National Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, where he received updates on the situation in the flood-affected areas and the progress of search, rescue and relief operations.

During the meeting with lawmakers, Shah said the government was fully committed to ensuring the safety and providing relief to affected citizens. He directed the concerned authorities to remain particularly vigilant in low-lying areas and to immediately relocate displaced people to safer locations.

The government has mobilized security personnel in the affected areas and intensified search and rescue operations, according to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.
