KATHMANDU: Nepal Police have issued a travel advisory warning of highway closures and nighttime traffic restrictions in several districts as heavy rainfall continues to disrupt road networks across the country.
As part of precautionary measures aimed at reducing the risk of floods and landslides, authorities have imposed nighttime travel restrictions on several vulnerable road sections.
According to Nepal Police, traffic on the Khurkot–Nepalthok–Katunjebesi section of the BP Highway, which links Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli, has been completely prohibited from 6:00 PM to 4:00 AM until further notice. The road remains open for daytime traffic.
Likewise, the Kanti Lokpath in Makwanpur will remain closed to traffic every night from 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM. In Nuwakot, non-essential public and private vehicles have been barred from using the Tokha–Chhahare road section between 10:00 PM and 5:00 AM.
Meanwhile, adverse weather conditions have completely disrupted traffic along several major highways. The Mechi Highway at Rajduwali in Ilam Municipality-9 has been blocked by a large amount of mud. Authorities have advised travelers to use alternative routes.
In Rasuwa, the Pasang Lhamu Highway section along the Trishuli–Mailung–Syabrubesi road at Khalte in Uttargaya Rural Municipality-5 has become completely impassable after the Trishuli River eroded the road.
Similarly, the Bheri Corridor along the Jajarkot–Dolpa road in Aathbiskot Municipality-6, Rukum West, remains blocked following a debris flow of mud and stones at Rijegard Khola.
Police have urged travelers and transport operators to exercise caution, stay informed about road conditions and avoid unnecessary nighttime travel on vulnerable highway sections until the situation improves.
