Probe committee formed over Narayani Hospital death



BIRGUNJ: A five-member committee has been formed to investigate the incident that occurred at Narayani Hospital in Birgunj on Saturday.

Relatives of 45-year-old Rajkumar Patel of Birgunj Metropolitan City-25 staged a protest after he died while undergoing treatment in the hospital’s emergency ward, alleging negligence by doctors and the hospital administration. The relatives claimed that Patel, who was receiving oxygen support, died after the oxygen supply was removed while he was being shifted.

The investigation committee comprises Binay Kumar Ram, Administrative Officer at the District Administration Office, Parsa; Dr. Niraj Kumar Singh of Narayani Hospital; Ashutosh Chaturvedi, Ward Chairperson of Birgunj Metropolitan City-25; Bikash Patel, a representative of the deceased’s family; and Sunil Kumar Roniyar, a representative of the hospital administration. A police inspector from the District Police Office, Parsa, will coordinate the committee.

The hospital has removed five health workers involved in the patient’s treatment from their duties pending the investigation report.

Deputy Superintendent of Police and spokesperson for the District Police Office, Parsa, Kishor Lamsal, said the committee would submit its report within a week. He added that necessary action would be taken against those found responsible based on the findings of the investigation.
