Journalist Binod Dhakal arrested in cybercrime case



KATHMANDU: Journalist Binod Dhakal has been arrested by police in connection with a cybercrime case.

A team from the New Baneshwor Police Circle took Dhakal into custody in Kathmandu.

Dhakal, who has been associated with several media outlets including Canada Nepal Dot Com, had published comments through his Facebook account concerning Inspector General of Police Dhan Bahadur Karki and Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City Mayor Hemkarna Paudel.

Following those remarks, a complaint was registered against him at the Area Police Office, Itahari.

According to New Baneshwor Police Circle, Dhakal was arrested based on an arrest warrant issued by the Sunsari District Court.

Police said he was taken into custody with court authorization and has been sent to Sunsari for further investigation.
