PM to appear in Parliament within a week: RSP Chief Whip

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has informed the House that Prime Minister Balen Shah will appear in Parliament within a week. Speaking during Tuesday’s second meeting of the House of Representatives, RSP Chief Whip Kabindra Burlakoti said the Prime Minister’s presence in the House had been assured amid continued obstruction by opposition lawmakers. He said the Prime Minister’s attendance within a week would help create an environment for the smooth functioning of Parliament.

Nepali Communist Party (NCP) Chief Whip Yubaraj Dulal has warned that Prime Minister Balendra Shah (Balen) should not be considered above the Constitution, insisting that the prime minister must remain fully accountable to Parliament and appear before the House to respond to lawmakers. Speaking at Tuesday’s House of Representatives meeting, Dulal said the prime minister emerged from Parliament itself and therefore must show respect toward the legislature. “The belief that the prime minister is above the Constitution cannot be accepted. If that is the case, the government should formally inform the House,” he said. “The prime minister was born out of this Parliament. Therefore, he should at least stand at the rostrum for one minute and address the House.”

Tension erupts in Parliament after RSP lawmaker calls opposition obstruction ‘drama’

Tension flared in the House of Representatives on Tuesday after Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Jagadish Kharel described the ongoing obstruction by opposition parties in Parliament as a “drama.” Speaking from the rostrum during deliberations on the tourism-related bill, Kharel accused opposition parties of creating disruption in Parliament for decades. Defending the eight ordinances introduced by the government despite repeated postponements of parliamentary meetings, Kharel argued that Parliament should not be used as a platform for obstruction.

Court orders release of Durga Prasai

The District Court Parsa has ordered the release of Durga Prasai on general bail after his arrest from Birgunj last week. He was arrested on May 19 from Hotel Siddhartha Diayalo in Birgunj and was in custody at the District Police Office, Parsa. A single bench of Judge Gayatri Prasad Regmi issued the order on Tuesday, directing that he be released on general bail in a case related to electronic transactions and charges of offences against the state. According to police, Durga Prasai was taken into custody based on allegations of delivering provocative statements through social media, activities seen as disturbing social harmony, and involvement in actions deemed as incitement against the state.

Shram Sanskriti Party directs mandatory use of Chair Harka Sampang’s photo in all party programs

The Shram Sanskriti Party has instructed all subordinate committees to mandatorily include the photograph of party chair Harka Sampang on banners and promotional materials used in party programs. According to a letter issued by the party’s Koshi Province Committee, the directive applies to programs organized at the district, metropolitan, sub-metropolitan, municipal, ward, and local levels. The letter, signed by Provincial Committee Chair Pratap Rai and Secretary Deepak Timilsina, states that the image of “Revered Labour Father Chair Harka Sampang” must be included in all banners and publicity materials.

Prime Minister (PM) Balendra Shah has said that he is fully aware of the responsibility entrusted to him as head of government. Speaking at a joint meeting with resident and non-resident ambassadors of European Union (EU) member countries at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Tuesday, Prime Minister Shah said his government is committed to improving the living standards of Nepali citizens. “Being new does not mean being completely separated from the past. We are fully committed to protecting democratic values and maintaining political stability by ensuring that Nepal’s policy direction remains clear, stable, and predictable,” he said.

523 foreign nationals deported in 2025

The Department of Immigration on Tuesday conducted an orientation and interaction program with stakeholders to strengthen the effective implementation of the Foreign National Management Information System (FNMIS). According to the department, the system is expected to support local registration of foreign nationals, security monitoring, criminal investigations, and disaster management. The department has urged service providers including hotels, trekking agencies, airlines, banks, and telecom companies to mandatorily integrate with the system.

PM Shah says ‘being new does not mean breaking completely from the past’

Prime Minister Balendra Shah has said that being a new government does not mean completely distancing itself from the past, stressing continuity in Nepal’s policies and commitment to democratic values. Speaking during a joint meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers with ambassadors of the European Union and its member states based in Kathmandu and New Delhi, along with other ambassadors stationed in Kathmandu, Prime Minister Shah said Nepal would maintain clear, stable, and predictable policy direction. According to Prime Minister Shah’s press and research advisor Deepa Dahal, the Prime Minister stated, “Being new does not mean being completely detached from the past. We are fully committed to protecting democratic values and ensuring political stability while maintaining clear, stable, and predictable policy direction.”

Speaker Aryal says PM Balen Shah preparing to address Parliament

Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal has said Prime Minister Balen Shah is preparing to appear in Parliament and respond to issues raised by lawmakers. The Speaker made the statement on Tuesday after opposition parties continued obstructing proceedings in the House of Representatives over the Prime Minister’s absence ahead of the announcement of the upcoming fiscal year’s budget. “I am personally in communication with both the government and the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister is preparing to come to Parliament,” Speaker Aryal said. “The Prime Minister is aware of the issues being raised in the House.”

NC chief whip Basana Thapa accuses PM Balen Shah of arrogance

Nepali Congress Chief Whip Basana Thapa on Tuesday accused Prime Minister Balen Shah of moving ahead with what she described as the arrogance of majority. Speaking during a meeting of the House of Representatives, Thapa said the government had failed to make Parliament and parliamentary committees effective. She made the remarks after receiving time from Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal following protests by opposition lawmakers in the House.

NEA to build 132 kV underground transmission line in central Kathmandu

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is set to construct a 132 kV underground transmission line in the heart of Kathmandu. The project is being developed with the objective of ensuring smooth and reliable electricity supply within the Ring Road area, along with improving urban aesthetics and increasing electricity consumption capacity. According to the proposal, the underground transmission line will connect Balaju–Maharajgunj–Durbarmarg–Ratnapark–Singha Durbar. The total length of the line from Balaju substation to Singha Durbar will be 11.92 kilometres.

MP raises question in Parliament over GB Rai in cooperative fraud case

Questions have been raised in Parliament regarding GB Rai, business partner of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairperson Rabi Lamichhane, in connection with alleged embezzlement of billions of rupees from more than five cooperatives. Rabi Lamichhane and GB Rai jointly operated Gorkha Media Network, which is currently under investigation over allegations of misappropriating large sums of money. The case is currently sub judice in court. Meanwhile, the Kathmandu District Court has reportedly granted relief in the organized crime and money laundering case involving the duo.

NC lawmaker KC calls for inclusive national dialogue on constitutional amendment

Nepali Congress lawmaker Arjun Narsingh KC has suggested holding an inclusive, all-party national conference to discuss possible amendments to the Constitution. Speaking during the zero hour of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, KC proposed forming a powerful commission led by a former Chief Justice to facilitate national dialogue on constitutional reform. He said the commission should include constitutional experts, political party representatives, administrative specialists, and members of civil society.

RSP commits to bring PM Shah for parliamentary question hour as opposition pushes for timeline

During a meeting of the House Business Advisory Committee, the ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has committed to facilitating the presence of Prime Minister Balendra Shah in the parliamentary question-and-answer session. The commitment came after opposition parties strongly demanded that the Prime Minister must attend the question hour in line with provisions in the House Rules. RSP Chief Whip Kabindra Burlakoti assured that efforts would be made to bring the Prime Minister to Parliament soon. The House Rules require a direct question-and-answer session between the Prime Minister and lawmakers during the first week of a parliamentary session.

Bird flu detected in Kathmandu

Gokarneshwor Municipality has urged residents and poultry farmers to remain on high alert after cases of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (bird flu) were confirmed in several wards of the municipality. In a public notice issued on Monday, the municipality said bird flu infections had been detected in wards 2, 3, and 4, prompting intensified efforts to control the outbreak by destroying infected birds, poultry feed, and related materials in the affected areas. According to the notice, ducks, chickens, quails, and other birds, along with eggs and feed found in the infected zones, are being safely destroyed and buried in pits, while disinfection measures are also being carried out in the area.

EU diplomatic delegation arrives at Singha Durbar for talks with Prime Minister Balen Shah

A diplomatic delegation of European Union (EU) member states has arrived at Singha Durbar for a scheduled meeting with Prime Minister Balendra Shah today. The ambassadors and heads of mission from EU-affiliated countries reached the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers for a joint interaction with the prime minister. According to Prime Minister Shah’s press and research expert Deepa Dahal, the meeting will focus on Nepal’s current national priorities, strengthening bilateral relations, and expanding cooperation in various sectors.

Gold, silver prices decline in Nepal

The price of gold declined by Rs 1,300 per tola in the domestic market on Tuesday. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, hallmark gold, which was traded at Rs 292,800 per tola on Monday, has been fixed at Rs 291,500 per tola for today. Similarly, the price of silver has decreased by Rs 90 per tola.
