MP raises question in Parliament over GB Rai in cooperative fraud case

KATHMANDU: Questions have been raised in Parliament regarding GB Rai, business partner of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairperson Rabi Lamichhane, in connection with alleged embezzlement of billions of rupees from more than five cooperatives.

Rabi Lamichhane and GB Rai jointly operated Gorkha Media Network, which is currently under investigation over allegations of misappropriating large sums of money. The case is currently sub judice in court.

Meanwhile, the Kathmandu District Court has reportedly granted relief in the organized crime and money laundering case involving the duo.

During Monday’s session of the House of Representatives, MP Aren Rai from the Shram Sanskriti Party raised questions about GB Rai and the government’s failure to arrest him, despite ongoing concerns over cooperative fraud cases.

Speaking during the zero hour, MP Rai said victims of cooperative fraud should be provided relief, but warned that state funds should not be misused in the name of compensation.

He also raised other issues, including monkey management and settlement of squatters and unmanaged settlements.

“When will monkey menace be addressed? When will squatters and unmanaged settlements feel the presence of the government? When will GB Rai be arrested?” he asked in Parliament.
