BP Highway blocked for 15 hours after rain-triggered flood damages diversions

KAVRE: The BP Highway has remained completely blocked for the past 15 hours due to continuous rainfall and flooding.

The road was shut after floodwaters in the Roshi River washed away temporary diversions in several sections of the Aapghari area along the Kavre-Sindhuli stretch, leaving the highway impassable.

According to the District Police Office, Kavre, vehicular movement has been fully halted since Saturday afternoon.

Police spokesperson DSP Rabin Bista said diversions were swept away at multiple locations, including Chowkidanda, Ghumune, Charsay Besi, Gimdi Besi, Narke, Chiuribas, Kaldhunga, and Mamti, causing a complete disruption of traffic.

Hundreds of vehicles travelling between Kathmandu, the eastern hills, and the Tarai have been stranded, while essential supplies have also been affected. Passengers have been forced to remain stuck along the route.

Authorities have urged people to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary and to use alternative routes where possible, citing continued risk in the area.

DSP Bista said the Road Division Office and other concerned agencies are preparing to repair the damaged sections once weather conditions improve. However, officials warned that restoration of normal traffic may take time due to ongoing rainfall.
